Noah Asimow, who began work at the Vineyard Gazette as a summer intern two years ago, has been appointed news editor for the newspaper.
A native of Chicago, Noah graduated from Yale University, where he was a sports columnist for the Yale Daily News. Following graduation, he worked in San Francisco for the Washington, DC-based speechwriting firm West Wing Writers before setting his sights on journalism.
Since joining the Gazette in May 2018, Noah has proved himself to be a reliable reporter, a stylish writer and an eager student of Vineyard history, politics and culture, while remaining a resolute Cubs fan. He currently lives in Oak Bluffs.
“Noah’s rise from summer intern to newsroom leader seemed to happen in an instant,” said publisher Jane Seagrave in announcing his appointment. “He is a rare talent, possessed of a natural curiosity, an engaging personality, excellent judgment and enormous capacity.”
The winner of multiple first-place awards from the New England Newspaper & Press Association, Noah is equally adept at in-depth news coverage and feature writing, and has led the Gazette’s coverage of Covid-19 and its effect on the community since the start of the pandemic.
As news editor, Noah will continue to report the news, but has taken on additional responsibilities for story development and editing, both in print and on the web. The position has been vacant since the departure of former news editor Sara Brown in 2018.
