Climate strike day saw children and students pouring into the streets from New York city to Indonesia to Australia, in open revolt against world leaders who they feel have failed to do enough.

Closer to home, Islanders raised a flag at the Gay Head Cliffs, formed a flotilla in the Menemsha channel and held a rally at Five Corners in Vineyard Haven.

Later in the day events are planned at Island Grown Initiative’s Thimble Farm in Vineyard Haven, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Student groups also were due to travel to Boston and New York city to join the protests in those cities.

Vineyard climate activists have begun to organize recently via the Island Climate Action Network, a coalition of people from around the Island that meets regularly to raise visibility about climate change issues on the Vineyard.

We can’t control climate change. Even if you completely get rid of humans the climate will change. Over the billions of years the earth has existed the climate has constantly changed. There have been many ice ages before humans. Are we contributing to climate change? Probably a little. Can we change the climate change that the earth is trending towards? I say no, humans do not have the power. Arrogantly people who disagree with me call me a denier. I don’t deny the climate changes, it always has. The people who think humans are entirely responsible mostly just want money and control over the population. This is what should make you really suspicious. The climate changes with or without humans any other believers are simply arrogant. The good news is that it takes thousands of years to have real climate change barring an asteroid or volcanic event. See you in 11 years in 2031. We’ll be fine.

Hooray for you!!
We are watching the indoctrination of our youth in an agenda to destroy capitalism!
It’s time to wake up!
Socialism and communism are on the doorstep.
Using our children should have a familiar ring and sound alarms!
Unfortunately, the process has been taking place in our schools and media for such a longtime now, that people have become desensitized.

It’s so inspiring to see the youth of a place that produces nothing grows little more than novelty food telling the rest of us about climate change. Until you start manufacturing your own stuff and cutting down of GHEs from transportation, this is all meaningless grandstanding.

Sorry.

Think this Country has done its share, wish other Countries would do the same and I'm tired of not having my car pass fuel emitions, recycling.Think your all brain washed by our schools ,and find that disturbing.since 1992 we have reduced carbon emissions.Asia and Africa are disposing of plastic more than other countries,,,Maybe we should have dorms set there thermostats at 50 this winter and turn off Air Conditioners.

My tax $$$$$ went to kids leaving school, paying for their transportation to protest this foolishness! Plastic should be the #1 issue.
Tell China who is the worst contribution to air and earth pollution to knock it off!
And STOP teaching our kids on my dime that America is totally terrible in every way, shape & form and that the world will end in 12 years or less!
You have these kids being basket cases and your brainwashing on my $$$$$ is terrible!
Oh BTW, if the seas are rising at rapid rates why did John Kerry & Obama buy multi-million dollar homes on the ocean and here on the Vineyard? Even they know that Al Gore was a fool for starting all this crazyness as he made Billions fooling everyone, well not everyone!
