The freight ferry Katama remains out of service due to engine failure earlier in the week. The freight ferry Sankaty has been cleared to run in its place starting Thursday with the 8:45 a.m. run from Woods Hole.
Two trips aboard the Sankaty — the 1:35 p.m. departure from Woods Hole and the 5:20 p.m. departure from Vineyard Haven — have been designated to carry hazardous cargo and will not be accepting passengers, the SSA said in an email today. The boatline urged passengers on this trips to make alternate plans.
The SSA cancelled all trips for the Katama early Tuesday after a main engine failed on the vessel. With permission from the Coast Guard, the ferry returned to Woods Hole and later motored to Fairhaven for repairs.
Customers are advised to check the SSA website or call for information. The telephone numbers are: 508-693-9130 (Vineyard reservation office); 508-693-0367 (Vineyard Haven ticket office); 508-693-0125 (Oak Bluffs ticket office).
