The Lagoon Pond drawbridge was back in working order Monday evening after it was closed for more than three hours, rerouting traffic and prompting an advisory to motorists from Tisbury police and the Steamship Authority.
Tisbury police tweeted at around 6 p.m. that the drawbridge was stuck, advising motorists to seek alternate routes.
At 6:30 p.m. the Steamship Authority posted a travel advisory reiterating the problem.
Reached later, Tisbury police Sgt. Chris Habekost said the problem occurred when one of the arms on the bridge that blocks traffic broke.
The problem was repaired by 9:15 p.m. and the bridge was again was again open to all traffic, the sergeant said.
He said Massachusetts state police and Mass DOT assisted with putting up roadblocks.

I lined up at 4:45, was about
David West TisburyI lined up at 4:45, was about tenth in line at the bridge (on the OB side). I waited about 30 minutes before giving up and turning around. No police were present, no information from the bridge tender, none of us in line were told what was going on. Tisbury police don't make any public announcement until 6pm? What is wrong here? Who operates the bridge? Why do they have no web or twitter presence? Even when the bridge is working correctly, it would be helpful if they would tweet out when the bridge opens and closes.
Police should be notified on
Ted VHPolice should be notified on both sides right away if there is a malfunction. On a side note, the warning light setup on this bridge is just ridiculous. It takes longer for the lights to deploy and retract than it does for the bridge to go up and down.
