I’m sure I’m not the only one who can tell their woes concerning the local post office.

I don’t often complain, but in this case it needs saying! I’m sure I’m not the only one who can tell their woes concerning the local post office.
I was born on the Vineyard and basically have lived in Edgartown my entire life (36-plus years on the West Tibsury Road and yet they can’t seem to figure out where I live). Mail used to be sent to RFD number 16 until eight to ten years ago when they asked that we use our house number, which is 138 West Tisbury Road. I recently lost my dear companion, and numerous people have sent me condolence cards, only to have them returned because they put an RFD number on the envelope.
Come on, get with the real world. Have we grown so much that we’ve lost what made living here on the Vineyard so special?

On a related note; How many
Jimmy Burgoff Pelham, MAOn a related note; How many of us had our credit rating (FICO) score downgraded about 25 years ago when all the towns decided to change many addresses to make it easier and more uniform for the police, fire and ambulance services? I lived in the same Vineyard Haven home for 16 years. Yet during that interim, my address changed from #16 Look Street,to #36 Look Street, to #38 Look Street, and then back to #16 Look Street. In the eyes of the financial world, I had become a transient. I don't recall missing one piece of mail though, as I had a PO box downtown.
If I needed work, I would stroll downtown and always someone would stop me with, "I've been meaning to call you......". Eventually, come the late 90's that not only stopped, but I no longer recognized anyone in or near the Post Office as I would loiter on purpose. Smiles and affirming nods of the head became extinct. Replaced by frowns and scowls and no eye contact as if I was on a NYC subway. I knew then that it was time to leave the beautiful island. I did in November of 2000. No regrets either!
