Martha’s Vineyard Screenprinting/Midway Signs Designs, owned by Richard R. Mello Jr., recently won third place in the signshop vehicle category in a national vehicle graphics contest sponsored by Signs of the Times Magazine.
The winning design is a reproduction of a World War II fighter airplane designed by Sharon Mello. The design was created at the Vineyard Haven shop, and applied to Mr. Mello’s van by the shop owner and assistant Chris Maciel.
Signs of the Times said the van is a strong example of the link between military aircraft and vehicle wraps, with simulated bullet holes providing a battle-worn look.
The winning van is parked daily in front of Martha’s Vineyard Screenprinting on State Road in Vineyard Haven, in the Radio Shack parking lot.
