Two men arrested late last week in Oak Bluffs have been arraigned on drug charges related to distributing oxycodone, according to police.
The Oak Bluffs police and Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force arrested Joel C. Rebello, 24, of Oak Bluffs and Donald S. Berube, 24, of Tewksbury after a motor vehicle stop on Monroe avenue on Friday, according to a press release by the Oak Bluffs police department.
Police said they seized 150 oxycodone (Percocet) pills that have the combined street value of about $9,000. Mr. Rebello had been the target of an ongoing task force investigation, police said, because of his alleged involvement in the illegal distribution and use of oxycodone on the Vineyard.
After the motor vehicle stop, police said, a search of the vehicle revealed 150 30-milligram oxycodone pills in two plastic bags. The bags were found in an Orbit gum container that was under the carpet near the back of the driver’s set, police said.
Police said neither man has a prescription for oxycodone and $470 in cash was seized from Mr. Berube.
Mr. Berube and Mr. Rebello were arraigned Monday morning in Edgartown District Court. Both were charged with trafficking in a class A drug (heroin/morphine/opium) 18.2 grams total weight, and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Bail was set at $500 per the commonwealth’s request, and pretrial hearings scheduled for Dec. 29.

Since I'm totally ignorant
Tom Hodgson wtSince I'm totally ignorant when it comes to street drug prices, I had to ask the intertubes. A quick googling from four or five different sources says street value of oxy is $15 to $30.00. So what's with this $60 per tablet? Is that Vineyard "inflation"? Or police inflation to make a good pinch look even better? Can anyone better informed shed some light on this?
Tom, it depends on the
Michelle Gingras VHTom, it depends on the milligrams of the pill. The higher mg, the higher the price. Glad they got these scumbags off the streets. For now anyways.
"police inflation to make a
mike s. mv"police inflation to make a good pinch look even better?" You cant be serious with a quote like that can you? the police do a great job on this island only to have a biased legal system letting people off the hook, i suppose your fine with the $500 bail tho for that much drugs, no inflation there...
Would be nice to clarify bail
George Stein EdgartownWould be nice to clarify bail amount asked by DA was higher than what judge asked for. Perp photo would be nice offering as well.
Mr. Hodgson,
Paul EdgartownMr. Hodgson,
Just like anything else on this island, drugs too are affected by inflation just like groceries, gasoline and building supplies. Percocet 30 milligram pills are usually sold for $60 a pill on this island at the street level.
Do you at least get 10% off
Tom M. ChilmarkDo you at least get 10% off when you use the Island Card?
