Sharon Edell was 64 and had lived on the Island for many years. Her death is not criminally suspicious. Police have been unable to contact relatives; anyone with information is asked to call 508-693-0545.
State police have identified the woman found dead late Tuesday morning on the beach in Makonikey as Sharon Edell of West Tisbury.
State police Sgt. Jeffrey Stone said Ms. Edell, 64, had lived on the Vineyard since 1978. She worked as a masseuse, he said.
Police have said her death does not appear to be criminally suspicious. The body was transported Wednesday to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow, Sergeant Stone said. “We’ll see if we can find anything out,” he said.
Police said a woman walking her dog found Ms. Edell at around 11 a.m. Tuesday on the beach near Split Rock in the area between Lambert’s Cove and Makonikey.
State police, West Tisbury police and West Tisbury fire responded to the scene.
Sergeant Stone said while Ms. Edell had many friends on the Island, he had been unable to contact any family members. Anyone with information about reaching her family is asked to contact the state police at 508-693-0545.
