Vineyard Haven Man Arrested for Heroin Trafficking

Jeffrey T. Moore, 43, was arraigned Monday morning in Edgartown district court on charges of trafficking in heroin following an investigation by the Martha's Vineyard Drug Task Force.

A Vineyard Haven man was arrested Saturday and charged with heroin trafficking following a Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force investigation.

Jeffrey T. Moore, 43, was arraigned Monday morning in Edgartown district court on charges of trafficking in heroin, possession of a class B substance (Methadone) with the intent to distribute and possession of a class B substance (Suboxone) with the intent to distribute.

According to a police report by Oak Bluffs Det. Nick Curelli, about seven members of the drug task Force executed a search warrant at the Walker Way apartment where Mr. Moore was living, as part of an ongoing heroin distribution investigation.

Police allegedly found 18.5 grams of heroin, 6.5 grams of Suboxone and 10 Methadone pills.

According to the report, police believed that Mr. Moore allegedly purchased the drugs in Providence, where he said it cost $70 per gram. The police report said heroin is often sold on the Vineyard for $200 a gram.

In court Monday morning, Cape and Islands assistant district attorney Laura Marshard said that Mr. Moore has an “extraordinary record” that is six pages long, including probation violations and time in jail.

Ms. Marshard asked for Judge H. Gregory Williams to set bail at $60,000.

Ryan Searle, Mr. Moore’s attorney for the bail hearing, asked for bail to be set at $1,500, and called the higher bail amount “excessive in this case.” She said that Mr. Moore has been fully cooperative and has family on the Island. His wife was present in the courtroom.

Judge Williams set bail at $50,000 cash. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Feb. 8.

When the drug companies changed the formula for the legal painkillers so you can't crush and snort them anymore a percentage of that crowd moved to heroin. That's the trend here in the prescription pain killer capital (South Florida). Heroin is now also cheaper than Oxy.

Maybe if MV had better treatment options for the DISEASE of addiction and stop acting like MV is Disneyland, this problem could be helped. Youre in MA and we have a huge opiate problem, water cant stop disease, being on an island doesnt mean you wont be affected by the states problems. Time to pop the bubble MV is living in
