Brenda Lee Cummens Johnson,79
Brenda Lee Cummens Johnson died on June 10. She was 79.
Brenda was born on August 29, 1945, the daughter of Chester and Esther Cummens. She grew up on Martha’s Vineyard, the older sister of Peggy and Chuck and was surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
She graduated as class president from Martha’s Vineyard High School and was voted most athletic in her class yearbook. She had lots of friends, especially Merrily and Audrey with whom she remained close.
She studied child psychology at Drury College in Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Graysen Johnson on a blind double date. The couple was married for 61 years with many stops along the way in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Alabama and Maine, before retiring in Naples, Fla. Together they raised three wonderful kids, growing and supporting them along the way.
Brenda worked in real estate and loved living near the ocean. She had many interests and hobbies such as decorating, reading, gardening, crossword puzzles (especially from the USA Today), crafting, watching Jeopardy and collecting recipes. But even more, she loved gathering her family together, hosting holidays and making traditional famous grape nut custard, pecan pie, and six-week muffins delights, all recipes that were passed down.
She was predeceased by her two best friends, Diane Muliero and sister Peggy (Priscilla Carroll).
She is survived by her husband, Graysen, daughter, Wendy (former husband Ronnie), their children, Jasper and Cristina; son, Graysen (wife Persephone) and their daughter, Alexis; son Chad (wife Jennifer) and their daughters Hayley, Hannah and Corinne.
She also leaves behind her brother Chuck (wife Donna), sisters-in-law Beverly and Hollysue (Bruce), and many nephews, nieces and all of their families.
Brenda was great at keeping tabs with friends and family alike, hosting or stopping in on their numerous east coast drives. She is on to heaven now for her next chapter in life and will be missed dearly. We have cherished our time and great memories together. Thank you for everything!
