Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Dec. 5

We are getting a lot of rain right now and I am so happy because we need it so much, plus we are waiting for the ponds to be full so winter can begin.

We are getting a lot of rain right now and I am so happy because we need it so much, plus we are waiting for the ponds to be full so winter can begin. As usual I am wishing for some snow to get me in the mood for the holiday spirit, but according to the forecast I guess I am going to have to wait.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Isadora Batista and Kallen Allen, who celebrated their day on Nov. 30; Anabel Da Silva, Ana Nunes on Dec. 2; Emmett Sylva on Dec. 3; and to Colby Greene and Taylor Prescott, who celebrate their day on Dec. 5.

After watching the news on black Friday and seeing the line of traffic waiting to get into the Wrentham outlets, I am eating my words when I said those days were gone. There are still people who love the thrill and are usually good at finding all those bargains that are offered out there. But there are those who now use the internet to shop and keep the post office and UPS very busy.

Town is very busy decorating and getting ready for Christmas in Edgartown next weekend. Most of the activities start on Friday but don’t forget that Donaroma’s is having their event on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. The theme is Northern Lights. The outside is all lit up, and the garden store is transforming into a Nordic theme with many treats in store for young and old people to enjoy.

I could not end this column without mentioning the loss of former police chief David Rossi. He was a well-respected man and loved by many. He was a husband, father and grandfather, and loved his family. His smile was infectious and sometimes devilish. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with his family and many friends.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
