A shout-out to whoever is responsible for the striking improvement in the Steamship Authority reservation system. My wife and I are seniors (I’m 90, and my “trophy wife” is a mere 80). As other old-timers know, advancing age is a full-time occupation, involving frequent off-Island trips to see doctors.

Lately, not only have we been able to secure our preferred travel times, but the friendliness and can-do attitude of the reservation staff have been exceptional. Their helpfulness and good humor helped make every call a pleasure. It’s as if a whole new system has been installed with a mandate to grant the caller’s wishes as if a favorite relative were calling.

Miracles do happen. Kudos to the Steamship Authority.
