Vineyard Haven Town Column: Week Ending Oct. 24
My go to food is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A friend brought me a jar of cranberry and jalapeno pepper jam from Linda Alley’s New Lane Sundries in West Tisbury.
My go to food is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A friend brought me a jar of cranberry and jalapeno pepper jam from Linda Alley’s New Lane Sundries in West Tisbury. In a twist I made a sandwich with that and sesame tahini butter. As an added touch I used it on my sourdough bread. Wonderful! In honor of my dear friend I call it the Linda. Try one.
Our ice rink will host the Blizzards. They will have some practices and games here. Very exciting news.
The attendance at the No Kings rally at Five Corners last weekend broke all our records here. So much camaraderie and peace.
Linda Tydings Massaro called me from Florida last week. She grew up here. Linda has been having some health problems but was in fine shape for an extended call. She is expected to return here for 10 days next summer.
Elaine C. Carroll, a great artist and writer who lived here for many years also called me from North Carolina. Elaine is out of the hospital and feels much better.
Chris Hulbert, who has spent summers on-Island for many years, called me from California. He has met up with a friend he actually met at our Black Dog Cafe many years ago. They were having a good visit. Chris will be wending his way back to Florida soon where he spends the winter in the Keys.
Sharon Fisher attended the party for our fishing derby’s finale. Sam Bell won the prize boat. Sharon brought me a derby pin and the nicest derby magazine I have ever seen. Years ago I also worked weighing in fish for our derby.
Bruce Zucks was a childhood friend of mine. He was a Marine. Then a chef at great restaurants. Later he went into pet services. He has been living in Howell, Michigan. Sadly, Bruce passed last week. Condolences to his family.
Kenny and Liz Hayes of Vineyard Haven celebrated seven years of wedded bliss on Oct. 18. Happy anniversary to them.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Noel Macy on Oct. 18. And on Oct. 21 Jane Tompkins, Christiansen Gerber and Susan Murphy took the cake. Many happy returns.
