Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Oct. 17

Well, we finally got the much-needed rain. Unfortunately, the wind came along with it and kept us on our toes for two and a half days.

Well, we finally got the much-needed rain. Unfortunately, the wind came along with it and kept us on our toes for two and a half days. Thankfully, everyone is safe and now we will have a few leaves to rake. Also, the ponds are a little fuller, and the cooler weather is on its way.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ryder Moore, who celebrated Oct. 11; Tasso Gomes, Oct. 12; Miles Brown, Oct. 13; and to Taj Barbosa, who celebrated his day Oct. 14.

Special birthday wishes go out to Kraig Mundt and Dan Deslauriers, who both celebrated milestone birthdays this past week. To celebrate, Kraig and Dan and their wives, Ashley and Jade, flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico. They spent a few days their relaxing and swimming in the pool and lit up the sky with birthday candles seeing there were 90 in total burning.

Congratulations to Jarek and Keira Peters who welcomed their second son Walker, on Oct. 10. Walker, who is the younger brother of Zaiden, weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces and was 22.5 inches long. Congratulations to all.

I know I was giving you all a heads up that Christmas was on its way and to start planning gifts, but even I was taken back as I was watching a program on TV and Home Depot had a Christmas commercial on. A few nights later there was another commercial by another company and I thought to myself this is going to be a long Christmas season.

If you like to walk but you would like some company, you can meet up with friends at the Edgartown Library for a walk around town. Lisa Sherman will meet you at the rear entrance of the library to stretch legs and then walk between 2.5 to 3 miles on mainly flat and mostly sidewalks through the downtown area. It will take about 60 to 90 minutes. In case of inclement weather, you can call 508-627- 5221 or visit the library website for cancellation information. All ages are welcome.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
