Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending Sept. 5
The humidity has been gone, and it is so nice to be outside and enjoy the comfortable heat and do the outdoor things we enjoy.
The humidity has been gone, and it is so nice to be outside and enjoy the comfortable heat and do the outdoor things we enjoy. It rained during the night a few days ago and it was a welcomed rain. Now, the sweaters and long sleeves come out for the chilly nights which makes for great sleeping.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to all the school children who celebrated their day this past week. Hope your day was everything you wished for.
Fall is on its way. The nursery officially changed over the summer annuals to mums, ornamental cabbages, peppers, kale and millet grass. The mums are barley open, but you can start to see their colors coming out. My favorite plant is the millet in the nursery as the gold finches will discover when the plumes have the millet seed out and they balance on the plant to get the seed. Also spotted today was a praying mantis that love to crawl on the mums.
Starting this week my road has once again become very busy as school started Tuesday and the buses arrived, teachers are in the classroom early and then the children arrive, and the playgrounds are once again alive. You have to be careful as the kids are on bikes and scooters and walking on the bike paths and sidewalks. Please drive carefully and keep a watchful eye out for them.
Local wildlife photographer Chris Scott will exhibit his wildlife photography in the library’s program room for the month of September. Join them for an artist reception on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 3 to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Also join the library Sept. 9, from 4 to 5 p.m. for an educational presentation with Dr. Robert Gagel, which will focus on strategies for preventing and treating fractures and osteoporosis. Dr. Gagel is the former Head of the department of internal medicine at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Tex., and has served as the president and chairman of the Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
