Katherine Elaine Erbeznik is engaged to wed James Chambers Nelson on Sept. 13.

Katherine Elaine Erbeznik is engaged to wed James Chambers Nelson on Sept. 13. The ceremony will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown followed by a reception at Lambert’s Cove Inn. The bride is the daughter of James and Ann Erbeznik and Diane Erbeznik of Sacramento, Calif. The groom is the son of Richard and Deborah Nelson of Chatham, N.J. and Oak Bluffs.

The bride is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA), Bowling Green State University (PhD), and Indiana University Maurer School of Law (JD). She is a partner of the Tax Group at Winston & Strawn LLP in New York City.

The groom is a graduate of Rutgers University (BA) and Seton Hall School of Law (JD). He is presently a part-time student at Drew University School of Theology (M.Div.) and a managing attorney for Progressive Insurance Company.

The groom’s family dates back on the Island to 1875. The home, originally built in the campgrounds and moved to Tuckernuck avenue, remains in the family. He grew up spending summers on the Island with his grandparents Ralph and Natalie Bartlett at their home on Sengekontacket.

The couple met in early 2021. The bride visited the Island for the first time several months later and immediately fell in love with its beauty, waters and community. The couple began spending as much time as possible on the Island and purchased their own home in Edgartown in 2024.
