The last Edgartown Village Market takes place Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the backyard of the Dr. Daniel Fisher House, adjacent to Pease’s Point Way North. You will find fresh produce, local goods, handmade treasures and Island-made treats. It’s only a five-minute walk up from the ferry.
The 2026 Chappy Community Center calendar photo contest ends this Friday. Don’t miss your chance to vote and to see all of the many entries. The Chappy artists show will be up until August 27. There is one more lobster roll dinner of the summer — order by noon on Saturday. See the CCC website for complete details.
Each year, one of Chappy Ferry vessels is hauled out of the water for maintenance and US Coast Guard inspection. This year the shorter of the two boats will remain in service to handle all of the traffic alone. During the approximately six-week period between the end of the derby and Thanksgiving, use of the cut-line is curtailed. This year the Chappy Ferry steering committee has recommended that only concrete trucks will be excluded from the cut line. This hopefully will encourage contractors and homeowners to avoid big projects during that time.
It’s hurricane season. I keep an eye on Mike’s Weather Page to get the details and updates. This Friday we will see the greatest effect of hurricane Erin, which is forecast to stay well offshore. Hopefully, we will get some rain from it. However, so far we have only seen the assault of high surf along the south shore. There have been washovers at the Mattakessett end of Norton Point. Two more potential hurricanes are in the pipeline coming off of Africa. Hold onto your hats and lawn furniture!
