Penny Uhlendorf has been named the recipient of the 2025 Spirit of the Vineyard award.

The annual award is given to someone who has made meaningful contributions to the Island through volunteer efforts. It is presented by Vineyard Village at Home.

Ms. Uhlendorf has worked at and volunteered for numerous organizations around the Island, including BioDiversity Works, Island Autism, Felix Neck Wildlife Sancturay, Vineyard Conservation Society and the Sheriff's Meadow Foundation, among many others.

“She is the first to raise her hand, volunteer, offer support, and do what needs to be done,” wrote Suzan Bellincampi, director of Felix Neck, when submitting Ms. Uhlendorf’s nomination. “She is a giver, a doer and has been described as ‘magical’ when it comes to making things happen.”

Her positive approach and dedication is a common theme through all her work.

“From assisting with large mailings to helping at our Annual Summer Benefit and other events, Penny has always shown up with warmth, dedication, and a deep love for the Vineyard community,” wrote Catherine Hall, the advancement coordinator for Sheriff's Meadow Foundation. “Her support has made a meaningful difference to our work — and she brings that same spirit to the many other organizations she volunteers with.”

Ms. Uhlendorf’s impact on the Island’s conservation efforts and the overall community makes her the perfect recipient for the award, according to Ms. Bellincampi.

“There is no one like Penny,” she said. “She is the one you want on your board, as a volunteer, and in your life.”
