Edgartown Town Column: Week Ending August 8
Warm weather during the day, nice breeze, cool at night, windows open — the weather is perfect.
Warm weather during the day, nice breeze, cool at night, windows open — the weather is perfect. And don’t forget that the meteor showers will be happening soon. Hopefully, the sky will be clear enough to see them.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons to all the school kids who celebrated their day. I hope it was a special time.
I just got home from the seeing the Jon Zeeman Band at the summer music series at the library. It is always a nice night and people enjoy the evening. While sitting and waiting for the concert to begin I heard the people in front of me saying they were bringing lobster rolls next week to enjoy during the concert. This is how I learned that the Edgartown Patrolman’s Association will be doing this fundraiser at the Edgartown School on Tuesday, August 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. It is a drive-through pick up and the cost is $30. All proceeds will go to benefit the Sylvia family and baby Nelly’s NICU journey.
Sounds like a great idea and it will helping a local family in need.
The Stripe Bass and Bluefish Derby takes place Sept. 14 through Oct. 18. I also noticed that it is the 80th anniversary of the Derby. Of course, the bass are no longer part of the Derby, and bonito and false albacore have been added. They have also added new events, like the kid’s derby, Super Saturday with cash rewards, and the grand prize is now a boat.
But the competition is still the same and the stories are just as long about how the big one got away, and there are many sleepless nights. There are also many women who fish the derby now, so dinner is going to be late, or they will be eating out. Good luck to all those who participate.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
