The Chappaquiddick Island Association annual meeting is Saturday August 2 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Chappy Community Center. Come early for coffee and pastries. The Chappy Community Center annual meeting is on Saturday August 16 from 9 to 10 a.m.

New fares on the Chappaquiddick Ferry will go into effect on Friday August 1. A 12 per cent across-the-board increase was approved on July 21. The cash passenger fare and early trip fees will remain the same.

Car, pickup and van (no more than 4 tires or 22 feet in length) will increase from $15 to $17 for vehicle and driver roundtrip.

Regular discount book (blue ticket) of 20 roundtrips for vehicle and driver will increase from $230 to $258 which is an increase from $11.50 to $12.90 per roundtrip.

Subsidized Chappy year-rounder discount book (orange ticket) of 25 roundtrips for vehicle and driver will increase from $145 to $162 which is an increase from $5.80 to $6.48 per roundtrip.

Passenger fare of $5 per person roundtrip will remain the same. Regular discount book (pink ticket) of 50 roundtrip passenger tickets will increase from $173 to $193 which is an increase from $3.45 to $3.86 per roundtrip. Subsidized Chappy Year-Rounder discount book (green ticket) of 50 roundtrip passenger tickets will increase from $86 to $97 which is an increase from $1.73 to $1.94 per roundtrip.

The subsidized Chappy year-rounder program is available to individuals who live on Chappy year round with an absence of no more than 45 days per year.

Bicycle fare will increase from $7 to $8 roundtrip. Discount bicycle ticket book (red ticket) will increase from $115 to $129 which is an increase from $5.75 to $6.45 roundtrip. Motorcycles and Mopeds will increase from $9 to $10 roundtrip.

Early trip fees will remain the same: $60 for a 5:00 a.m. and $25 for a 6:00 a.m. per vehicle in addition to the usual fare.

There are 64 commercial vehicle and machinery fares. Here are the basics. Utility truck of pickup size but with dual rear tires increases from $23 to $26. Dump truck, flat bed, box truck as follows: Small increases from $23 to $26; Medium increases from $35 to $39; Large increases from $46 to $52; Extra Large increases from $58 to $65. Load fare increases from $5 to $6 per ton. Trailers as follows: Small increases from $17 to $19; Medium (tandem axle) increases from $23 to $26; Large (occupies two spaces) increases from $29 to $32; Extra Large increases from $52 to $58. Concrete mixer increases from $92 to $103.
