The North Water Gallery in Edgartown opened its season in June with an exhibit featuring the work of Nick Patton and Elise Phillips. This week, Meg Mercier is being featured, and there will an opening reception on Thursday, July 10 at 4 p.m.
Robin Nagle, director of North Water Gallery, said she is thrilled to welcome Ms. Mercier back to the gallery.
“She does beautiful landscapes and seascapes of the region, and she does a lot of plein air painting, which means the community very typically will see her with her easel set up along the street,” she said.
The event is part of the ongoing summer season of receptions that take place every other Thursday at the gallery, featuring local and nationally-based artists.
“It’s always just such a popular summer event to enjoy in town and stop by local art galleries and learn,” Ms. Nagle said. “We love being part of people’s summer traditions.”
North Water Gallery is part of a group of galleries owned by Chris and Sheila Morse, which includes the Granary and Field Galleries in West Tisbury.
This is North Water Gallery’s second season at their new location on N. Summer street, having moved last summer from its longstanding location on North Water street.
Ms. Nagle said the gallery is constantly being rearranged and updated.
“As art sells, artists tend to replenish what we have in the gallery and we rotate the space continually as things sell,” she said.
Ms. Nagle said she prides herself in creating a welcoming environment for all, including furry friends.
“I feel like art is for and to be enjoyed by everyone...and we like all people to be able to do that,” Ms. Nagle said. “We are honored to become part of people’s homes.”
