The Tisbury School committee will be seeing a new face as Alicia Lesnikowska defeated incumbent member Michael Watts for a three-year term on the committee.
The Tisbury School committee will be seeing a new face as Alicia Lesnikowska defeated incumbent member Michael Watts for a three-year term on the committee.
Ms. Lesnikowska earned 120 votes, with Mr. Watts receiving 108 votes. She joins current school committee members Amy Houghton and Jennifer Cutrer.
The race was one of only two contested races during the annual town election Tuesday which saw a turnout of 252 voters.
In the other contested race, a single three-year seat was up for grabs on the board of health. George Santos won by a large margin with 190 votes over Israel E.O. Ziegenhorn (25 votes) and William Henry O’Brien (20 votes).
Rounding out the ballot, John Schilling was voted in for a one-year term as town moderator; Michael Ciancio was elected to a three-year term as constable; John Cahill won an uncontested race for select board; Amelia Tierney earned a three-year term on the board of assessors; Elmer Silva won a three-year term as water commissioner.
Anne McDonough was elected to a five-year term on the planning board, and Mary Bernadette Budinger-Cormie, who also represents Tisbury at the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, earned a one-year term on the planning board.
Elizabeth Lewis Bates, Archibald Smith and Myra Stark were all elected to three-year terms on the board of library trustees, and Robert Gilpin was elected to a one-year term on the board of library trustees.
Louise Clough, Russell Hartenstine and Rachel Orr all earned three-year terms on the finance and advisory committee.

Tis Res VHDid the paper carry interviews and photos of the contested elections, prior to Tuesday’s vote? If not, why not?
How come these smaller
VH voting resident VHHow come these smaller elections get the bare minimum in terms of announcements and exposure from our own Town of Tisbury. They used to have announcements in the paper, and banners on Main Street for all elections weeks in advance. Now we get a blurb on the rarely visited Town website. There should be a more proactive approach to engage with all voters. Our Town can and should do better. Here is to hoping the next elections have better exposire and turnout There were only 252 voters in this election.
