Long Point Wildlife Refuge Closed for Burn Sunday

Earlier this month, the Trustees and the Nature Conservancy said they'd be doing prescribed burns at five properties across the Island.

The Trustees of the Reservations announced that Long Point Wildlife Refuge in West Tisbury would be closed for a prescribed burn Sunday.

Earlier this month, the Trustees and the Nature Conservancy said they'd be doing prescribed burns at five properties across the Island. Other properties include Katama Airfield, 80 Meetinghouse Way, Bamford Preserve and the Wasque Reservation.

The Trustees posted a notice on social media about the Long Point burn and closure at about 8 a.m. Sunday. The other burns are scheduled to happen sometime this spring, depending on weather.

I was very surprised they would have a prescribed burn on Sunday with the high winds???
