Sober House Waives Rent

Vineyard House is waiving rent for its residents during the coronavirus pandemic and seeking online donations to make up the shortfall.

Vineyard House, the only residential recovery program on Martha’s Vineyard, is waiving rent for its residents during the coronavirus pandemic and seeking online donations to make up the shortfall.

“Almost all of our residents are out of work,” executive director Kate Desrosiers wrote in an appeal on the GoFundMe fundraising platform, where a newly-established campaign aims to raise $50,000 for the sober living house and its residential programs.

Out of fairness to residents who are still working and paying rent, Vineyard House is putting their rent in escrow to be returned to them when they leave, Ms. Desrosiers wrote.

I hope we get better support for this charity organization than the support that was given to a for profit business. Please help those in need not those who think they have need.
