State Offshore Wind Contracts Delayed

The award of offshore wind contracts with state utility companies has been delayed until May 23.

The award of offshore wind contracts with state utility companies has been delayed until May 23, according to a statement from the Massachusetts office of Energy and Environmental Affairs this week.

Up to two contracts were expected to be announced Monday.

Three developers with leases to construct a utility-scale wind farms about 15 miles south of the Vineyard are in the running for contracts: Vineyard Wind, Baystate Wind and Deepwater Wind.

The delay is due to an unrelated hydropower project still under review and the spate of winter storms that forced the cancellation of a number of meetings, a state EEA spokesman said.
