Spring has come to Aquinnah as the pinkletinks arrived on March 31 and the herring are already heading up into Squibnocket Pond to spawn. The weekend was sunny with a slight chill in the air but Saturday was an enjoyable day for an Easter egg hunt at West Chop Lighthouse with Peter Rabbit dancing about and welcoming everyone. Monday we had another dusting of snow.

With all of the disruptions and break downs in the Steamship Authority ferries over the past two weeks, we could not have been treated kinder than we were on returning to Woods Hole on March 28. Kudos to Jeff in the Woods Hole ticket office. It was such a pleasure to be aboard the SeaStreak three times over the past week. Fast and courteous service and such speed arriving port to port in 20 minutes — wish we could have that luxury all the time.

The egg hunt at Aquinnah Public Library on Saturday was as eggsciting as always. Many young ones running around filling their baskets.

On Saturday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m. the Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust will present a conversation about growing kelp. Learn about an experimental kelp project underway in Menemsha with Amandine Hall of the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group and Otto Osmers and Shelley Edmundson. Chef John Thurgood of the Beach Plum Inn will prepare kelp several delicious ways for all to enjoy.

The Aquinnah Cultural Center invites everyone for food and fun for all ages on Sunday April 8 at 5 p.m. at Aquinnah town hall. Support the museum, enjoy dinner, music, try your chances with the raffle and buy unique Mother’s Day gifts from the artists. There is a $20 suggested donation at the door.

The Islanders Talk Benevolent Fund will host a Kale Soup Contest on Saturday, April 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Portuguese American Club on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Sincerest condolences to Molly Purves, her husband Curtis Langer, and their son Rodeo Purves Langer, in the loss of her mother Marge Purves on March 27 at her home in Worcester. Services will be held in Worcester over the weekend.

Tribal Elders traveled to the Lafayette House in Foxboro for luncheon on March 28, meeting up with elders from New Bedford and Boston. Always nice to see each other on occasion. Thank you to Tribal Human Services director Bonnie Chalifoux and her assistant Ambika Datta.

Happy 18th Anniversary wishes to Christian and Christine Soulagnet on April 8.
