On Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha’s Vineyard, Lucy Hackney will talk about her personal friendship with Rosa Parks. Mrs. Hackney and Mrs. Parks were longtime friends as were many in Mrs. Hackney’s family. Lucy’s father, Clifford Durr, was Mrs. Parks’ lawyer during parts of the Civil Rights movement, her mother worked to abolish the poll tax, and her brother in law voted as a member of the Supreme Court to end school segregation.

Mrs. Parks even helped create Mrs. Hackney’s wedding dress, but because the church was segregated during that era, Mrs. Parks could not attend the wedding.

Peter McLean, Dan Waters and Monica Van Horn will add to the 11 a.m. service with their musical talent.
