A special afternoon fundraiser for the Mendes family is planned at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the family as they face challenges in taking care of their daughter Lorena. Items for bid include two tickets for the Taste of the Vineyard, donations from Claudia and Vintage Jewelers, and many more.

Cost is $5 per ticket, or five tickets for $20.
