Ferries were cancelled and many Island roads were under water Tuesday as a coastal storm lashed the Island.
The storm caused severe flooding and road closures up and down the Massachusetts coast from the Cape and Islands to the north shore, where a number of major roads were closed and a mudslide was reported in Ipswich. On the Vineyard, East Chop Drive, which has been compromised by erosion, was closed as a precaution. Beach Road was submerged in numerous places from Oak Bluffs to Vineyard Haven.
By early evening ferry service had resumed again, although the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the Island until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
