Faith and Sexual Orientation Subject of Documentary

Retired bishop Gene Robinson's journey is the subject of Love Free or Die, a documentary that screens on Saturday at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center.

Retired bishop Gene Robinson became the first openly gay bishop to be elected to the Episcopal Church in 2003, catapulting him into the discussion of sexual orientation and faith. Mr. Robinson’s commitment to his calling while struggling for equality became a symbol for acceptance in religious institutions, the consecrations of future gay bishops and officiating same-sex marriages. That journey is the subject of Love Free or Die, a documentary that screens on Saturday, April 12, at 4 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center.  Director Macky Alston will attend the screening with a discussion to follow. The film event is free.
