Historian and author George C. Daughan will speak on the importance of the U.S. Navy in winning the War of 1812 at the next Sail MV dinner/lecture on Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. at the Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven. Dr Daughan received the 2012 gold medal in history and the George Pendleton Prize that same year for his book, 1812: The Navy’s War. The book tells the story of how a handful of captains and their crews overcame tremendous odds to gain victory against Great Britain in the war that lasted nearly three years. Tickets for the dinner and lecture are $25.
