Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Well, now that we have had the first snow of the season, it is starting to feel like Christmas.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Isaac Lefebvre and Danielle Meyer, who celebrated their day Dec. 7; Victoria Scott, Dec. 8; Aedan Coogan, Warner Hess, Myles McNeal, Joshua Pinto and Gustavo Ramos all celebrated on Dec. 10; Danielle Oteri on Dec. 11; Alissa Habekost celebrates Dec. 12, and happy birthday to Kaua De Assis and Harrison Arena-Neville who celebrate their day today, Dec. 13.
It has been quiet news-wise but people are busy getting ready for the holidays. The town is looking nice with all the wreaths, roping and white lights. Houses are starting to glow with lights. It has been tough as we are shorted one week this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
As part of Christmas in Edgartown, the United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard will present their second annual display of crèches in the Baylies room of the Whaling Church on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be at least 25 crèches from all over the world as well as an opportunity for kids to color and make their own crèches. Last year many people who visited the display expressed an interest in having their family crèches shown at the event this year. If you are interested, contact the UMC at 508-693-4424 or [email protected] for further information. The church can either arrange to have the crèches picked up, or they can be dropped at the church office in Oak Bluffs.
An annual benefit for Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard, the Reflections of Peace Christmas Concert is Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs. In its 17th year, the concert traditionally is a celebration of the spirit of community, with performances of time-honored as well as new pieces by a number of musicians.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and hope you can get out and enjoy some of the activities. The Christmas parade starts at 11 a.m. in Edgartown and then more activities continue throughout the weekend. You can check the calendar for all the different events.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
