Vineyard Graduate Marching in Macy's Parade

This Thanksgiving’s Macy’s parade will feature the usual faces: a giant turkey, Santa, an inflatable Charlie Brown balloon. And yet one face on television will be familiar to folks on Martha’s Vineyard for more personal reasons.

This Thanksgiving’s Macy’s parade will feature the usual faces: a giant turkey, Santa, an inflatable Charlie Brown balloon. And yet one face on television will be familiar to folks on Martha’s Vineyard for more personal reasons.

Mitchell Lowe of Oak Bluffs, a junior at the University of Massachusetts and 2011 graduate of the regional high school, will march in the morning parade with the UMass marching band, the largest collegiate band in the northeast.

Mitchell plays the bass drum in the group.

UMass band members will line up at 7:45 on Thanksgiving morning and perform a series of songs on the route, including Roll Down the Field, God Bless America and Sweet Caroline, in honor of the Red Sox World Series win. At 12:45 p.m. the band will perform live on TV in front of the Macy’s star.
