Gilmer, 25, of Vineyard Haven, was arraigned on Dec. 1 in Edgartown district court on charges of assault and battery and attempting to commit a crime. Mr. Gilmer was arrested on Nov. 29 by Tisbury police who said in their report that he had attempted to commit murder by strangulation. Bail was set at $1,500, and a pretrial hearing is set for Dec. 16.</p>
