Edey Foundation Grants Spread the Wealth

<p> At its annual meeting last month, the Edey Foundation awarded $71,236 to the following organizations: </p> <p> BiodiversityWorks, through the Manomet Center, for study of beach nesting birds and associated education and protection;</p> <p> Friends of Sengekontacket for an upgrade to their Web site;</p> <p> The Vineyard Conservation Society for natural resource monitoring training;</p> <p> Vineyard Energy Project for their in-school education program;</p> <p> Vineyard Voice Media for five environmental videos;</p>

At its annual meeting last month, the Edey Foundation awarded $71,236 to the following organizations:

BiodiversityWorks, through the Manomet Center, for study of beach nesting birds and associated education and protection;

Friends of Sengekontacket for an upgrade to their Web site;

The Vineyard Conservation Society for natural resource monitoring training;

Vineyard Energy Project for their in-school education program;

Vineyard Voice Media for five environmental videos;

Massachusetts Audubon Society at Felix Neck for its School-Based Natural History Program, and for Protecting Coastal Water Birds, and for the Citizen Science program;

Martha’s Vineyard Commission to assist towns on the issue of the impact of large houses and possible regulation models;

Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group to initiate a shell recycling program;

The Nature Conservancy for control of invasive species;

Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation for forest and land conservation;

The Trustees of Reservations for phase two of a study of native pollinators.

The Edey Foundation was created in 1988 by the late Maitland Edey of Seven Gates Farm to provide funds for conservation on Martha’s Vineyard including advocacy, organizational growth and stability, monitoring projects, education, and research. Awards ranging from $200 to $20,000 are made on an annual basis to nonprofit organizations and are to be used for work on the Island.
