Sail-Free Race to Save Sengekontacket

The 19th annual Martha’s Vineyard Oar and Paddle Regatta will take place this Sunday at the Little Bridge in Oak Bluffs. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.

Paddlers, owners of kayaks, canoes and rowboats will compete for prizes in a two mile race in either Sengekontacket Pond and or Nantucket Sound. A children’s race will take place at 10 a.m.

Registration is $25. Monies raised goes to the Friends of Sengekontacket, a nonprofit organization committed to protecting the water quality and shoreline of the coastal pond.

There is a category for paddling with your dog. Bring your own picnic for post-race gathering. Entertainment, T-shirts will be provided. Grill, hot dogs, drinks and ice will be provided. For more information contact Chick Stapleton of Island Spirit Kayak, 508-693-9727.
